Panfried Dumplings with a HK Style Satay Sauce

Published December 8, 2025

One thing I gotta have in my freezer is definitely a stash of frozen dumplings; whether that be store bought or homemade, you never know when the mood for dumplings might strike! These crispy pan-fried dumplings are served with this flavourful HK style satay sauce that's gonna have you licking your place clean, plus you can even reuse any leftover sauce for anything else!

ingredients

  • frozen dumplings

sauce:

  • 1 tbsp neutral oil (like vegetable or canola)
  • 1 spring onion, minced
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • ½ tsp curry powder
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1.5 tbsp Jimmy’s Satay Sauce
  • 1.5 tbsp smooth peanut butter
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • ¼ cup coconut milk (canned, full-fat for best richness)
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • around 1/4 cup water (adjust amount based on consistency preference)

toppings

  • coriander, chopped
  • sesame seeds
  • chilli oil

method

1. Sauté Aromatics - Heat the oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic, whites of spring onion, chilli powder and curry powder. Stir the ingredients for about 1 minute until the garlic is fragrant and the spices are toasted.
2. Combine the base - Add the Jimmy’s Satay Sauce and peanut butter then mix everything together until combined.
3. Simmer the sauce - Pour in the coconut milk, soy sauce and sugar; then whisk everything until fully combined and smooth. Stir in some water if you need to loosen the sauce.
4. Cook & Finish - Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
5. Serve - Remove from heat. Give the sauce a final taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

notes

  • Any leftovers can be drizzled over grilled meats like beef or chicken, as a dipping sauce for fresh spring rolls, or even as a stir-fry sauce for noodles and vegetables.
